Artiste précurseur d’avant-garde, reconnu comme l’un des pionniers du mouvement » Street’Art » français (Art contemporain urbain), Speedy Graphito s’impose aujourd’hui internationalement comme l’un des artistes majeurs de sa génération.
Depuis le début des années 80, juste après la figuration libre, Speedy Graphito imprègne du » Style Graphito » la mémoire collective et les murs de Paris en les colorant de ses graphismes percutants.

Aussi prolifique qu’inventif, SG utilise toutes les formes d’expression – peinture, sculpture, installation, photo ou vidéo, pour créer à travers son œuvre et au fil des époques un langage universel imprégné de l’air du temps.
Élaborées par thèmes, ses expositions se succèdent offrant des univers toujours nouveaux et surprenants. N’ayant de cesse d’évoluer et de se réinventer, sa marque de fabrique est celle d’un art joyeux et profond, aux couleurs souvent vives, dans lequel il bouscule de façon ludique et ironique nos systèmes de perception. Dans cette démarche, il n’hésite pas à s’approprier pour la détourner toute l’imagerie de la culture populaire, des super héros, voire des marques, réalisant ainsi un décryptage quasi-systématique de notre inconscient collectif. Il décline alors en autant d’interrogations les normes et les diktats de notre identité culturelle occidentale, superposant à la réalité de notre société une dimension plus poétique.
Lorsque Speedy Graphito use d’un dictionnaire imaginaire personnel précis, et que celui-ci se trouve de manière tangible relié à l’histoire de l’Art, c’est en réalité qu’il est le plus souvent enclin à en fournir les clés. Là, tout un chacun trouvera s’il le souhaite, une bonne raison de poursuivre une quête plus personnelle. Les thèmes de l’enfance et de la mort, depuis toujours largement présents, confèrent aux œuvres un caractère plus autobiographique, inspirées de ses pérégrinations et de ses voyages intérieurs. Speedy Graphito est un artiste populaire. C’est la commande de l’affiche pour “La Ruée vers l’Art” en 1985 par le Ministère de la Culture qui lui confère aussitôt une large reconnaissance et une notoriété grand public.
S’ensuivront l’animation des tours de la Défense pour le concert de JM Jarre – l’identité graphique extérieure de la Halle Saint Pierre – la création du logo de la mission spatiale Altaïr dont le dessin est encore quelque part dans l’espace intergalactique – la peinture de la péniche Europodyssée qui rejoint via les canaux Paris à Moscou, des voiles d’un catamaran pour une traversée de l’Atlantique en solitaire, et des murs de Paris le long du Parcours de la Bièvre…

Seine thematisch entwickelten Ausstellungen folgen einander und bieten neue und überraschende Universen. Wenn Speedy Graphito ein bestimmtes imaginäres persönliches Wörterbuch verwendet und dieses greifbar mit der Kunstgeschichte in Verbindung steht, ist es tatsächlich so, dass er am häufigsten geneigt ist, die Schlüssel zur Verfügung zu stellen. Dort findet jeder, wenn er möchte, einen guten Grund, eine persönlichere Suche zu verfolgen. Die Themen Kindheit und Tod, die seit jeher weit verbreitet sind, verleihen den Werken einen autobiografischen Charakter, der von seinen Reisen und seinen Innenreisen inspiriert ist. Alle sind eine Einladung zu Reisen und Erleuchtung. Das Gesamtwerk ist das eines Schmugglers, geprägt vom traumhaften Abdruck eines wahren Bilderstürmers. Developed with these themes, exhibitions followed with ever new and surprising universes. Having to constantly evolve and reinvent his trademark of joyful and profound art, often with bright colors, he playfully and ironicly shakes our perceptions of societal systems. In this approach, he does not hesitate to appropriate all the imagery of popular culture – superheroes and trademarks – thus achieving a quasi-systematic decryption of our collective unconscious. He comes in as many question the norms and principles of our Western cultural identity, superimposing on the reality of our society a more poetic dimension.
When Speedy Graphito uses specific imaginary from his personal dictionary, and it is tangibly connected to the history of art, it is reality that is mostly likely to provide the key. Here everyone will find, if desired, a good reason to pursue a more personal quest. The themes of childhood and death have always been widely present, making his works more autobiographical, inspired by his travels. All are an invitation to travel and enlighten. The work as a whole, is that of a facilitator, marking a dreamlike impression of a true iconoclast.
Equally at ease in a public painting performance as in the privacy of his own studio, Speedy Graphito devotes his body and soul to his passion. With the urgency of passing time, he acts as if in « survival » mode.
Speedy Graphito is a popular artist. By directing the creation of the poster for « Rush Art » in 1985 by the Ministry of Culture, he immediately received wide recognition and public awareness.
